Harbour View House was originally built in the 1930s as a single storey gardener’s cottage. It was renovated by my husband’s family when they purchased it in 1974. Charmingly, they had found it for sale in an ad in The Lady magazine.

After purchasing, they extended the footprint and added a second floor to take advantage of the stunning views and sunsets over the harbour, countryside and ‘The Crown and Anchor’ grade II listed pub opposite. Hence, there is a second sitting room, as well as the master-bedroom, and bathroom upstairs. Perhaps an unpredictable layout, but it works perfectly, especially when in a holiday state of mind! Upstairs, the windows to the rear and sides also take in the adjacent boat park, farmland, and in the distance, Goodwood and the South Downs.

My husband inherited the house some time ago and as we already lived nearby and were busy with a young family, we didn’t have a definitive plan moving it forwards, but couldn’t bear to sell it. Until we embarked upon the recent renovations, nothing had changed in nearly 30 years.  Spending so much time there during this work gave me a real opportunity to see the house through fresh eyes and appreciate its uniqueness. I fully understand why my husband has so many happy memories of summers and weekends spent on the ‘Sussex Riviera’!

For many years he had been hesitant to change a thing, but has found the new incarnation to be as exciting as I have. We’ve displayed a lot of artwork and some decorative objects collected by his parents back in the 1970/80s. They bring layers of atmosphere and soul into the house.

Since 2021, Harbour View House has been available as a holiday home. The house works so well for couples, families, small groups and especially for multi-generational gatherings and celebrations. We have enjoyed seeing our guests return several times already, as they know they can always relax in the house and then easily get out and about to explore the area, which has so much to offer.

We are keen to be helpful and share our knowledge too, as we have lived in Chichester for 30 years and quite frankly would not want to live anywhere else!

We do accept well behaved dogs as they deserve a holiday too!

Please contact me if you have any questions and if I can add some extras to personalise your stay, I will be very happy to do so.

Best wishes,

Alison
